Cardio-Rheumatology: Emerging sub-speciality interest session
The UK CARDIO-IMID Partnership had strong representation at this year's British Society for Rheumatology Conference (BSR) on April 28-30th in Manchester, with many investigators, academics and early-career researchers in attendance. A highlight of the conference was our Cardio-Rheumatology: Emerging sub-speciality interest session on 30th April, presented by our executive steering committee members Professor Maya H. Buch, Professor Sven Plein and Dr Taryn Youngstein. The session stressed that all autoimmune diseases are associated with excess CV risk, which in turn is associated with high mortality rates, and highlighted the responsibility of rheumatologists to step up and take responsibility for the cardiovascular health of their patients. The session was well attended by delegates from across the UK, and sparked insightful discussions around how to progress the intersectional cardio-rheumatology field in both clinical and research settings. A detailed write-up of the session has been published by the limbus UK, and can be found here: https://thelimbus.co.uk/rheumatology/cardio-rheumatology-a-hot-emerging-subspecialty/
Investigator Meeting
We were delighted to welcome investigators from across the Partnership to our Investigator Meeting on 29th April. The meeting was well-attended by academic, clinical and early-career researcher representatives from across our centres who connected with the Partnership team to discuss progress over the last year, and plans for implementing our Workstream 2 Registry Study.
